Let's choose your destination

Hi Reader,

One question we’ve been asking ourselves recently is…..

Where should we go next?

We live in the UK, which means we are lucky to have so many incredible destinations within easy reach. In just a few hours, we could be basking on a beach, exploring an ancient ruin, trying new food, experiencing a different culture, or discovering somewhere we’ve never been before.

There are just too many places to choose from.

Add in the limited annual leave, budget constraints and so many options, choosing just one can sometimes be the hardest part.

And we know we are not the only ones feeling this way.

So how do you choose the right destination?

Last week, we spoke about the first three questions you should ask yourself when you start planning a trip.

But if you are still stuck on where you want to go?

Then think about the type of trip that you want to have.

Over the years, we’ve come to realise that the best way to narrow down our options isn’t by looking at all of the possible destinations; we think about the type of trip.

Are we looking to relax and slow down?

Do we want adventure, nature and exploring?

Are we craving amazing food, culture and history?

Do we want a city break?

Or are we looking for a mix of everything?

The destination should match the experience you want from your trip.

For example, a relaxing beach escape and a two-week trip to Sri Lanka might both sound amazing, but they are completely different types of trips.

The next thing we consider is…

Does it fit the time and budget we actually have?

This is something we’ve had to learn over the years.

There are destinations we would love to visit one day, but they might not make sense for the trip we’re planning right now.

Sometimes a shorter European getaway is the perfect choice because it fits around work and our available time.

Other times, saving for longer means we can enjoy a bigger adventure without feeling rushed.

The right destination isn’t just about where looks amazing.

It’s about finding somewhere that works for the trip you want to take.

Finally…

Can we narrow our choices down to three destinations?

This is one of the best ways we’ve found to avoid destination fatigue.

We narrow down our choices to just three by asking ourselves these questions:

  • Which one fits the experience we want?
  • Which one works best with our time?
  • Which one fits our budget?

Often, once you compare them side by side, one destination starts to stand out.

It might sound simple, but sometimes making one decision is the thing that helps your planning finally move forward.

If you already have a few countries in mind, we’ve created practical guides to help you start planning your trip with confidence.

If you’re looking for:

Wildlife, beaches and incredible experiences Sri Lanka

Food, history and charming towns France

Beautiful scenery and a relaxed road trip Ireland

Big cities, national parks and unforgettable adventures USA

Sunshine, beaches and Mediterranean escapes Spain

Historic cities, castles and scenic landscapes Germany

Short breaks, countryside escapes and local adventures UK

We’d love to hear from you…
