We check local government advice, travel blogs, and Facebook groups to see what other travellers recommend, and avoid the spots that aren’t worth the risk. Choose accommodation wiselyWe look at reviews, location, and safety features, locks, safes, and access. When arriving in Sri Lanka, we always plan our airport transfer ahead, whether it’s a trusted taxi, Tuk Tuk via PickMe, or a hotel-arranged ride. Trust your instincts and stay awareWhether you’re walking around Colombo, catching a train to Kandy, or wandering the beaches of Tangalle, trust your gut. Stick to busy areas, avoid dark alleyways, and never feel pressured to take shortcuts that make you uncomfortable. Be mindful when out and aboutSri Lankan’s are friendly and welcoming, but alcohol can impair your judgment. Never leave drinks unattended and enjoy responsibly, especially when travelling solo.
