Hi Reader, If you haven’t got Galle on your Sri Lanka itinerary, then we really think you should. It's beautiful! With white colonial buildings, boutique hotels, the famoud Galle Fort, and sunset views that shouldn’t be missed. But how long should you spend in Galle? And what is there to do? Well, from our experience, we’ve visited Galle on two occasions, and on both we only spent a day there. Was it enough? We think it was, especially if the day is planned to maximise what you want to experience. Although it is possible to spend 24 hours and explore more than just the Fort. If you only want to spend one day in Galle, then arrive early, and explore Galle Fort, before stopping for a spot of lunch at the Dutch Hospital. Our favourite restaurant was A Minute by Tuk-Tuk. Before watching the sun set, and then leaving. If you do wish to slow down the pace a little, spending 24 hours in Galle allows you to explore Galle beyond the Fort. If you’re a cricket fan, you might want to watch an international match from the ramparts for free, try local food stalls along the beach front and more.
