Anuradhapura might look easy to navigate at first, but it’s not as straightforward as it seems.

One thing we noticed was that everything was spread out. This makes it challenging to walk between ancient ruins and temples, especially in the hot sun.

Seeing all the main sites in one day is a lot more difficult than it first seems.

And because everything is so spread out, it’s easy to end up wasting time travelling back and forth, or cramming too much in and not really enjoying the trip.

When we visited Anuradhapura, we only had one day and thought we’d be able to see everything. But reality kicked in, and we soon realised it wasn’t something that was achievable.

Now, whenever we plan a trip, we focus on what we actually want to see most, rather than trying to see everything.

Instead of trying to tick off everything, we focused on the places that mattered most to us and had a simple plan for getting around.

Shifting our focus from seeing everything to what we value most has transformed our trips from rushed and stressful to calm and fulfilling.

The key thing to remember:

Don’t try to see everything; focus on what matters most to you and plan your day around that.
