Hi Reader, Many travelers to Sri Lanka are unsure about what clothing is appropriate for different places and situations. It should be quite simple right? Because Sri Lanka is all about hot weather, beach time and summer clothes. Yes, Sri Lanka is hot and humid, especially in Colombo, and there are plenty of beautiful beaches to relax on. However, it is far cooler in the hill country, such as Ella and Nuwara Eliya, where you’ll actually need to have some warm, layered clothing. There’s also a distinct cultural dress code in Sri Lanka, not just for day-to-day living, but most importantly when visiting temples. Once you understand that, it’s far easier to apply that to what you should wear daily and what you should pack. When we were packing for Sri Lanka, we kept it pretty simple. The only real adjustment was if we had plans to visit the hill country, we’d include layers, or for visiting the temple, we’d always make sure our shoulders and knees were covered. And outside of beach or pool areas, we were more mindful about what we wore. So we’d dress more modestly, with no revealing outfits, and this is not because of strict rules, but just to avoid drawing unnecessary attention. What will make all the difference is being aware before you go, packing better combinations, and clothes that work well together, could be re-worn, and suited to the heat.
